About this project

The problem we solve:
Healthcare is an extremely profitable trillion dollar industry where not much progress has been made towards becoming a healthier nation in the last 50 years. Among non-Hispanic blacks age 20 and older, 44.8% of men and 47.3% of women have CVD. In 2008, CVD caused the deaths of 46,819 black males and 49,819 black females. Among non-Hispanic whites age 20 and older, the following have CVD: 37.4% of men; 33.8% of women. In 2008, CVD caused the deaths of 335,247 white males and 360,441 white females. Perhaps a big part of the problem is physicians don't practice what we preach. Would you get a financial check up from an accountant who filed for bankruptcy? Would you seek legal advice from someone recently incarcerated? Would you get your car fixed by a mechanic taking the bus? A huge part of the problem in medicine is that physicians are unhealthy and patients aren't buying into the lie we ourselves have not bought into. In order to have a healthier nation we have to heal our doctors
About our solution:
The first step to a healthier nation is taking health care out of medical clinics where patients wait for hours for refills on medications and spend very little time with physicians on health education. In the Fit Physicians Center Patients will walk into the gym instead of a waiting room. Once "checked in" the patient will spend educational time with their personal trainer and nutritionist before seeing the doctor. There is no such thing as just coming for a refill. Diet and exercise are fundamentally as important as any pill and in order to overcome the behavioral discarders often comorbid with the most common chronic medical conditions patients need to be conditioned with repeat visits to the entire health care team not a 5 minute visit with a physician. Doctors will have the option to lead work outs alongside the trainers before and after clinic to encourage adopting healthier lifestyles themselves. No scrubs allowed. Fitness attire only.
Progress to date: To date we have built a network of physicians providing care online. This is the first step to getting doctors out of the doctors out of the office for sick visits so we can increase efficiency. We are also in the process of establishing a strategic partnership with a personal training company to staff each doctors office with a trainer. As less visits take place in the doctors office it will allow us to transform traditional offices into boutique physician owned fitness centers.

How We Help Patients

Everyone hates going to the doctor. Imagine a world where you never have to go to the doctor again. No more crowded waiting rooms, no more ugly posters plastered on the wall no more grumpy doctors. When you are sick your doctor comes to you via telemedicine. When you are coming in for chronic medical issues or wellness you show up to your boutique fitness center where your personal trainer, nutritionist and primary care physician are waiting each looking forward to spending time with you encouraging you to reach your goals. The fitness center is always open for work outs or check ups. For the same fee you would pay for a gym membership you work out, meet with a health coach and get your medications refilled. The doctors in our fitness center are certified "fit physicians" who practice what they preach. Everyday work out classes are offered three times a day. Your doctor may just drop in for a work out with you. They are after all your partner in health.

How We Help Education

The future of medicine lies in the hands of young physicians. We can no longer accept that prescribing medicine is the way to better health. We can no longer accept a career leaving us so bogged down there is no room to be healthy ourselves. We can no longer accept being a hamster on a wheel shuffling from one patient room to the next. There is a better way to practice medicine. Food and exercise are the most important tools to help your patients. Studies have shown 80% of primary care visits can be handled online. By utilizing telemedicine for sick visits physicians can practice more efficiently in the future and doctors offices can become more focused on wellness. If all physicians can do is prescribe medicine artificial intelligence can replace us. We are more than pill pushers. We motivate, we inspire, if we transform ourselves, then we can transform our nation.

How We Help Physicians

Physicians work REALLY HARD yet patients are still unhealthy and the rates or diabetes, hypertension and obesity are unchanged. In fact many physicians are suffering from these medical problems themselves. What can we do about it? We can stop allowing ourselves to be a part of the problem. We have to come from under the piles of paperwork and administrative hassles and advocate for ourselves and our patients. If we want more time with our patients we have to practice medicine in a different way. Fit physician centers are not doctors offices nor medical spas. They are integrative centers where the entire focus is each patient living their healthiest lives. But it starts with you. How can a physician heal while suffering. We have to practice what we preach. We can do this by creating a different type of health care system where there is no fee for service. There are no 5 minute visits. There is no "meaningful use" instead there is a more meaningful way.

Challenge Mission

Mission: Our mission is to improve the health our our nation by challenging physicians to lead by example and transforming the way we deliver care from doctors offices to physician led fitness centers.
Use of funds: We would use the funds for the legal, marketing and sales team to facilitate strategic partnerships with existing fitness centers.
Intellectual Property Status: IP in process.
FDA Status: Not Applicable
Personal Message: My name is Dr Latisha Rowe. I am frustrated and disgusted with the way our health system incentivizes sickness instead of health. A portion of the trillions of dollars poured into curing diseases needs to be put into preventing disease. Having a gym membership isn't enough. Seeing a physician once a year isn't enough. Its time to combine Healthcare & Physical Fitness under one roof so we can see REAL Change!
