About this project

The problem we solve:
Health and wellness programs, in which an organization organizes fitness challenges for a group and offers rewards for participating, are a growing element of organizations' strategies for reducing healthcare spending. Given that chronic disease cost this country over $315 billion in direct healthcare spending, emerging evidence from companies as diverse as Johnson & Johnson and Pitney Bowes have shown savings of up to $1,200 per person per year in healthcare spending after implementation of a health and wellness program. The industry is worth $8.2 billion annually, but a major handicap is consumer engagement. Multiple studies have shown programs to fail if they do not sufficiently engage and motivate users. And, with rigid usage rules and limited apps and devices, user engagement is increasingly hard to come by; only 59% of employees use a pre-built app to track their fitness on a monthly basis.

About our solution:
Wellable is the only health and wellness solution that allows you to use your favorite app or wearable to participate in your employer's or health insurer's health and wellness program. Rather than requiring you to use a substandard app or a stripped-down fitness device to participate in a fitness challenge or earn rewards for your daily exercise, Wellable let's you use the app or device you prefer to make sure the program works best for you. Through our proprietary platform to transport data from your phone or device via an API to a cloud-based database, we have created a seamless enrollment and participation process for your employer or health insurer so you can get started and stay engaged. We measure your steps and the frequency of your checkins, and give you helpful tips on staying healthy along the way to keep your motivated!
Progress to date: In the three years we have been operating, we have helped hundreds of employers, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, cities and school districts take better care of their employees, members, residents and stakeholders, leading to a revenue CAGR of 400%+ and rapidly-rising monthly recurring revenue. In countless examples with our customers, we have shown 25+ percentage point increases in user engagement, in terms of daily and monthly active use. The best health and wellness programs of our competitors achieve 59% monthly participation rates, while our programs routinely exceed 70%. Our work with the Clinton Foundation and the cities of the Coachella Valley in California has attracted over 2,000 people to community walks, a marked increase over previous numbers.

How We Help Patients

Diet, exercise and healthy habits are at the foundation of any effort to improve health, and employers, health plans and communities are realizing it. Through our scalable approach toward health and wellness, we work with patients' preferred fitness app or device to offer a unique solution for each person, we aim to integrate wellness into their lives on a much more profound manner and at a lower cost. By making it easy and fun to stay healthy, in the way each patient prefers, we achieve higher levels of engagement never before seen, the key criterion in the sustainability and success of any health and wellness promotion program. By working with organizations to empower patients to take better care of their health, we not only help them live longer, healthier lives, but we make those lives better at a lower cost to the healthcare system.

How We Help Physicians

As medical practice moves toward a much more holistic appreciation of all of the factors that influence health, Wellable is ready to assist physicians as they begin to incorporate ambulatory and wellness measurements into their treatment decisions. Through Wellable, we are able to collect, transfer and display data as diverse as steps walked, calories eaten and hours of sleep and have the technology to incorporate biometric measurements such as heart rate into our platform. Such data can easily be given to physicians for use in treatment decisions, allowing them to have more information at their fingertips to make the best treatment decisions for their patients.

Challenge Mission

Mission: Preventive care is at the core of health. Wellable aims to make health and wellness programs tailored to patients' preferences so that they can live longer, healthier lives.
Use of funds: Building upon our experiences with the Virginia Commonwealth University, the Clinton Foundation and Las Cruces Public Schools, we aim to partner with cities, counties and even states to power the technology behind a community wellness strategy, and we have had fruitful discussions with the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to cover the entire city and state. As more and more communities become interested in such efforts in order to promote public health, we will use the funds to build our sales and technology frameworks to serve such large customers. Based on our success with our largest customer, New Balance, we are confident that we can achieve such a success to bring health and wellness programs to more people through increased investment.
Intellectual Property Status: Our software is covered by copyrights that are wholly-owned by the company.
FDA Status: The FDA does not regulate our products.
Personal Message: Staying healthy and active can be hard, but with Wellable, it can be fun and engaging. Help us bring our message of wellness programs for consumers, by consumers, to the country! Vote for us and join the revolution!
